My Happy Place

February 10, 2014

So some of you know that I work for an animal non-profit charity called Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund.

We don't rescue on a regular basis (but we do sometimes) but more educate and raise funds for animals in need. We also offer programs for seniors who need therapy animals, military families who need long term fosters for their pets while deployed, and spay and neuter programs.

A little piece of me is always missing on the weekends because my kids are away at their dads. I miss them horribly and even though it's really nice to have a few minutes alone with Tbone, I just can't wait til they come home and I can cuddle their little faces!

Saturday Tbone and I got up early and headed up to Bow Wow Bungalow (2 hour drive). Bow Wow is the most awesome doggy daycare/boarding facility I have ever been to. It is owned by our rescue President Marcie and her husband Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Marcie and Mike are huuuuge animal lovers and created a dog utopia. Marcie is awesome enough to let some of our permanent fosters live at Bow Wow.

This is Prinn, she runs the office during the day and then at night, heads upstairs with the night time manager to sleep in the apartment. She clearly has a rough life.

Now Tbone and I have a huge soft spot for Barton... He's our boy! We would gladly bring him home with us if he didn't want to play with Zeke... in his mouth... by chewing on him. Barton is a Tazzy Fund dog available for adoption but was abused so badly that he has permanent nerve damage and has a tough time going to the bathroom on his own. He is also afraid of most men and tends to be skittish with most things that dogs enjoy (balls, toys, etc.). Add these things on top of the fact that he weighs about 150lbs and eats more than a horse... it doesn't make him scream "ADOPTABLE". When Tbone lived up close to Bow Wow, we would go visit him pretty often, bring him a few In N' Out patties and take him for a walk. Barton who is afraid of most men, immediately fell in love with Tbone. He loves him, wags his tail for him and kisses him (which he just doesn't normally do).  Well since Tbone moved down here, it's been harder for us to go see Barton. Well we just heard that Barton will be heading to a permanent foster home (meaning that he will live in a home that we have approved and selected to stay as long as he needs to.. This could mean til he's old and grey or until the right person comes along for Barton). So Tbone and I had to go up and see him!!!!!

We couldn't be happier that Barton will be off to his new home this Wednesday where he will live with another one of our rescue boys Primus...

Primus

You deserve it Barton and we can't wait to come visit you in your new pad!!!!

Cuteness overload is not over yet...

Now this was the first time I was meeting our newest rescue Tank. I had seen pictures and heard his story but hadn't had a chance to go up and meet him yet... Oh boy, now I know why!!!! God couldn't have created a more perfect dog!!! If I didn't already have 2 rescue dogs and a rescue fat ass (cat), I'd have brought him right home!

Meet Tank!!!!

Tank

Tank is 1.5 years old. His owner purchased him from a breeder and then found out she was pregnant... She then tossed her puppy in the backyard without training or really even paying any attention to him. Then she relinquished him to us. Well yes, that is sad for Tank but so much better for him now. He has gone through training with flying colors!!! He is perfect!!! He is still young and has a lot of puppy energy but listens so well and is just a great boy! Tank weighs about 100 lbs and is a Neapolitan Mastiff/Johnson American Bulldog mix. He is basically 100lbs of solid muscle with the sweetest disposition.

Whoever get's this guy is a lucky lucky person!!! I cannot say enough good things about Tank!

Oh and if you remember Scooby from last week, he had his amputation surgery and is healing very well with his foster mom!

Scooby

Bow Wow is my happy place! I get to spend time with the dogs, playing with them, loving them, and letting them know that a family is out there just waiting to find them!!!

Happy Monday ya'll!

  3. You are awesome! I am such a wuss when it comes to these things because I hate thinking about how bad these dogs had it and how there's so many out there who aren't being helped... I'm one of those people who can't watch the Sarah McLachlan commercial. Anyways, thank you for sharing these stories! Again, you are so awesome for doing this!

    1. At times it is very hard... We see the worst in people... dogs that have been starved to death, we had a dog with horrible acid burns, and a dog that someone had docked his ears using household scissors.
